Several years ago, I came to Florida with a suitcase packed with my daughter and the dream to build a life together in the United States. The decision to leave my country was very difficult but based on trust, I took the leap of faith which led me to many challenging months ahead.
Unfortunately, I ended up in a very abusive situation and needed to get out quickly. I quickly found us without a place to live, without food for myself and my daughter and not knowing where I could go for work. I was very confused about whether I should stay or return to Colombia, but I was committed to finding a way to provide the life I had dreamed about for my daughter.
This is how I found the Women’s Center of Brevard. In the middle of the chaos and after a 911 call for help, they told me about a place where I could receive help. The very next day, I met kind and compassionate individuals at the Women’s Center of Brevard. They were truly angels sent to me at this time of my life and provided me with support for everything I needed. Food, furniture, legal advice, and helping me and my daughter find a place to live. In addition, I received a lot of emotional support that I will forever be grateful for in my heart.
